Strength is important to everybody. But as Ripped Grandmas we know it is especially important because if we don’t use it we do lose it. Foot strength is no exception! Ok, so we don’t go around flexing our feet like we do are biceps. Truthfully, no one has ever come to me and said, “I want to tone my feet because summer is coming and I want to wear my flip flops!” However, if we don’t have a strong muscle to lift the toes up when we walk we will trip or shuffle. Ripped Grandma’s do not shuffle, or at least do what they can in their power to unshuffle!

Before we get into that heavy lifting lets do some foot exercises to strengthen the foot complex and beat that shuffle!

What you need for these strength exercises is a towel, a golf ball or smaller ball.

The Foot Press

The foot press is a movement with no tools involved except your own two feet! How easy is that!

  • While you are sitting bring one foot toe up, heal down.
  • Take the other foot and place the heal on top of the toe of the other foot and gently push down.
  • The foot that was up should use resistance to keep from lowering to the floor. Kind of like thumb fights with your feet!

The Towel Crunch

The towel crunch is a classic foot exercise that pits your foot against the energy of a towel! More challenging than you might think. Remember our feet have been ignored, encased and forgotten.

  • Put a small towel on the floor and pull it towards you using only the toes. No, the cat can’t help.
  • Increase the resistance by putting a weight on the towel.

Golf Ball or Marble Pick-Up

  • Start with ten marbles on the floor and use the toes to pick them up one at a time.

You can also do this same exercise with a larger ball and use more of the arch of your foot, using a bigger ball as the muscles in the arch increase in strength.

There are several ways to strengthen the muscles in the foot and ankle, these are a few of the basic ones that you can start doing right away and help bring awareness to your feet. After all, we want a good understanding
