Belly fat is a complex issue and there are no easy answers. While exploring the subject and how
best to address it, I came across some info that is more of a “Fun Fact”.
How many of you have heard of Irisin?
Irisin is an exercise-induced hormone that researchers recently discovered at the University of Florida while studying fat tissue and fat cells. Irisin has a 1-2 punch in that it can transform calorie storing white fat into energy-burning brown fat. Brown fat is what helps keep babies warm before they learn how to shiver.
What is Brown Fat?
Brown fat is mitochondria packed and produces heat. It was thought that only babies have brown fat. But a 2009 study shows that everybody has at least some brown fat! It is hard to detect and it’s found in unpredictable spots like the neck and shoulders. But not everybody has it there! There is a lot of upcoming research on the subject.
Irisin also suppresses fat cell formation by 20 to 60 percent, that’s the 1-2 punch! How do you get Irisin? Small amounts are released during moderate aerobic endurance activity! More recent research indicates that.
Irisin also helps improve heart function by boosting calcium levels! Also, Irisin production has been found to be independent of age or exercise ability!
Knowing how your amazing body works and the fact that you have the ability to increase your own Irisin production might just be the motivation you need to move more and sit less.
