Coordination and Agility!
This is a mobility movement that focuses on coordination and agility. Since safety is my first concern if you feel uncomfortable doing this for any reason start where you can… hold onto a bar or counter.
Coordination is important for our balance as is agility. We often have to move quickly in a situation, whether it is to get out of the way of an oncoming bicycle, chasing after a grandchild, or hustling to make a tennis shot.
Although I am using a Bosu, oftentimes I have clients use a regular ball, or if you don’t like the idea of something rolling beneath your feet, a step can work well. Although it is challenging to move around a step.
The movement is a simple pattern of step and down with one foot and step and down with the other. Notice I am also pumping with my arms which helps promote total body movement and glute engagement.
Depending on your ability and confidence, start slow, in fact super slow is also hard to do because you have to maintain your balance on one leg.
As you become more confident move around the Bosu and speed it up. I do these drills in-between my other sets, as they also help keep the heart rate up.
An agility ladder is also a great tool for coordination! We will tackle that next week! In the meantime have fun with your tapping!
Remember to work in a pain-free range of motion and work to your abilities but feel free to challenge yourself!
